Law Practice

    Admitted to the bar, 1994, California and U.S. District Court, Eastern and Central Districts of California. From 1994 to 1996, Ms. Winter practiced at a mid-size employment litigation firm in Sacramento defending employers against whistle-blower and discrimination claims. She has 20 years’ experience at Leonard & Lyde defending physician and nurse clients against medical negligence claims in state and federal courts.

Practice Areas

    In addition to defending medical negligence cases, Ms. Winter represents health care professionals before the Medical Board of California and Board of Registered Nurses. Since 2005, she has served as a Butte County Administrative Hearing Officer deciding cases related to nuisance abatement and personnel issues. She has also presented training seminars on medical-legal topics to local physician groups and the Enloe Medical Center nursing staff.

Litigation and Trial Experience

    Ms. Winter defends physician clients in medical negligence cases through all phases of litigation from discovery to settlement, dismissal, or trial. Ms. Winter has participated in 7 jury trials and countless depositions. Her trial experience includes conducting jury selection and direct and cross examination of lay and expert witnesses and delivery of closing arguments.

Personal Life/Interests

    Ms. Winter enjoys travel, UCLA and Ohio State University sporting events, photography and exercise. She has served as a board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte County and the Jesus Center, a local non-profit serving the homeless. She is currently on the Chico High School Sports Boosters Board of Directors where she served two terms as Board President. She and her daughter also volunteer through the Chico chapter of the National Charity League where she has served as Vice President and Grade Level Advisor.
